Vedanta offers aluminium range for the auto industry

The largest aluminium producer in India, Vedanta Aluminium, hosts the automotive industry summit AutoEdge 2024 in New Delhi.

In addition to being a vital component of many contemporary modes of transportation, aluminium is also used in the production of automobiles. The occasion offered a chance to find new areas of cooperation and included expert-led talks on the sector’s future roadmap and the role aluminium plays in its evolution. Leading automakers and key component suppliers from the sector took part in the occasion.

Aluminium is a lightweight metal that has many advantages over other metals, including a greater strength-to-weight ratio, enhanced corrosion resistance, good electrical conductivity, and endless recycling possibilities. Due to these qualities, it is an obvious choice for a wide range of applications in the rapidly expanding automotive industry, which is predicted to account for close to 15 percent of India’s GDP by FY31. Nowadays, the average vehicle with an internal combustion (IC) engine has about 180 kg of aluminium in it, whereas an electric vehicle has about 260 kg.

Commenting on the event, John Slaven, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, says, “We offer our customers in the automotive industry an unmatched combination of advantages: global expertise, cutting-edge technology, customised alloys, ease of doing business, a reliable supply chain and most importantly, an unyielding commitment to sustainable business practices. Backed by innovative product development, technological sophistication, and localisation, they represent an opportunity for Indian automotive players to compete at the same level as global companies.”

Gaurav Vats, Senior General Lead, Corporate Materials, Uno Minda, added, “Vedanta Aluminium offered rich insights into how the automotive sector is poised to evolve and the several ways aluminium could help us derive maximum value from this transformation. Collaborative efforts always result in improved solutions, and so we look forward to our fruitful partnership with Vedanta Aluminium for unlocking enhanced innovation and business growth.”

Vedanta Aluminium provides a range of superior goods specifically designed for the automobile industry, acknowledging that aluminium can stimulate innovation in this domain. Some of them are billets for crash-resistant extrusions that are perfect for applications needing high-impact resistance, and specialist primary foundry alloys (PFAs) for creating alloy wheels and cylinder heads. Furthermore, the company provides wire rods, rolled goods, and ingots for a range of automotive uses. They are made with top-notch technologies that are taken from the USA, Spain, and Italy, among other places, and are delivered to clients in more than 60 nations for high-end uses, demonstrating both the great demand for and the quality of their manufacturing.

Vedanta Aluminium has always prioritised putting the needs of its customers first when developing new products. The Customer Technical Services section of the organisation collaborates closely with clients to create products that meet their requirements. Downstream companies can set up their operations to receive just-in-time molten metal extracted from Vedanta’s huge aluminium smelter nearby at the company’s future Aluminium Park in Jharsuguda, Odisha. Recently, Vedanta Aluminium also unveiled Vedanta Metal Bazaar, the largest e-superstore in the world with over 750 basic aluminium items. AI-based features simplify the entire purchasing process for clients.

According to the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, the firm is the most sustainable producer of aluminium globally. The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has certified its operations, which include the largest aluminium smelter in the world in Jharsuguda and the renowned aluminium producer BALCO in Korba, Chhattisgarh, following its strict performance requirements. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) International also attests to the company’s premium aluminium products’ sustainable production.
