Volvo CE aims towards net-zero emission

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India showcased their state-of-the-art, zero-emission construction and mining equipment at the first-ever Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

The DD40 Electric micro asphalt compactor, one of Volvo CE India’s most innovative products on display at the Bharat Mobility Expo, is a noteworthy accomplishment as the country’s first locally designed, produced, and manufactured electric road machinery. This innovation, which is powered by Lithium-ion batteries with superior chemistry, has the potential to completely transform urban sustainable road building. The machine is a prime example of Volvo CE’s contribution to the Atmanirbhar Bharat project, assuring cleaner and quieter construction activities in compliance with tight emission standards. Its superior instrumentation, zero-emission operation, and dependable charging capabilities make it stand out. This ecologically friendly device not only demonstrates Volvo CE’s superior technical skills but also the company’s commitment to offering long-term solutions specifically designed for the Indian market. Furthermore, it has enormous export potential to Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Central and Southeast Asia.

The world-class 6-ton wheel loader from Volvo has an electric version called the L120 Electric Wheel Loader, which is on show at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Modern active cooling in batteries and energy recuperation technology assure efficiency and longevity. With zero emissions, low noise and vibrations, and high operator safety, this innovation establishes new benchmarks for sustainable material rehandling and earth-moving. It has the potential to completely change how things are done at ports, quarries, mines, cement, iron ore, etc. manufacturing facilities.

Volvo introduced a line of emission-free vehicles in 2023 at CII EXCON and Bauma CONEXPO INDIA, two international trade shows. The EC500 Electric, India’s first 50-ton grid-connected electric excavator, is among the major goods that were introduced in the year. It is ideal for locations and uses with permanent electrical infrastructure, such as ports, hopper feeding at plants, quarries, mines, etc. The battery-powered EC55 Electric and EC80 Electric small excavators are ideal for indoor use, forestry, urban development, and plantings. Notably, numerous customers have already put the EC55 Electric through rigorous testing, confirming its strong performance and dependability.

Cleaner and quieter road building is ensured by the PT220 Electric, the Electric Asphalt Compactor, which provides the smoothest asphalt compaction without emitting any pollutants, making it perfect for environmentally sensitive locations.  Mobile Power Unit designed locally to facilitate rapid charging of electric construction equipment on construction sites when the infrastructure for charging is scarce or distant from the work area.

Speaking on the sidelines, Dimitrov Krishnan, MD, Volvo CE India, says, “We are excited to participate and showcase our indigenous and world-class zero-emission electric solutions at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. Being the third largest and one of the fastest-growing CE markets in the world, we feel this is the time to accelerate a technological shift towards electrification for domestic and export markets. We already see a lot of curiosity and interest from our early adopter customers and with government support fleet electrification in the CE industry can take off just like in automotive. We believe a few initiatives including the CE industry in the FAME scheme, reducing GST to 5 percent on electric machines, and creating EV-friendly infrastructure tenders can be big enablers to set the ball rolling. Our participation in the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 showcases our dedication to shaping a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future for the construction industry in India.”

Beyond electric innovation, Volvo CE is emphasising its dedication to bolstering client success with modern service solutions including productivity, uptime, and Equipment as a Service. With the EaaS business model, customers can unlock their business potential by removing concerns about high capital costs, skilled labour, and technology updates, making the transition to electric machines easier. It is a value-added, scalable service that bundles state-of-the-art equipment with efficiency measures.
