L&T launches Delhi – Meerut RRTS
For Package 3 Lot-2 of the 82.15 km Delhi-Meerut RRTS (RapidX) project in Meerut, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) celebrates the launch of their final of 4948 precast segments.
Through five elevated stations south of Meerut city, Lot-2’s 15 km connect Modinagar North and Shatabadi Nagar. In Mohiuddinpur, south of Meerut South Station, the first 10.5-meter precast segment of the L&T viaduct was launched in March 2021 between piers P1054 and P1055.
The launch of the final leg, a significant project milestone, took place next to the Indian Railways line between piers P1188 and P1189 between the stations of Meerut South and Partapur. The 31-kilometer Package 3 Lot-1 and Lot-2 construction contracts were given to L&T by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in March 2020 with a 910-day (2.5-year) deadline.
To produce box segments for Lot-2, L&T’s team used two casting yards: one in Shatabdi Nagar and the other in Manota village in Muradnagar. With 18 long-line and 18 short-line beds, Manota village is said to be one of India’s largest yards. Five elevated stations will be built as part of Lot 2 in Modinagar North, Meerut South, Partapur, Rithani, and Shatabdi Nagar. The only Meerut Metro trains with three coaches will serve the stations in Partapur and Rithani.
With this advancement, segment-launching activities have been finished for four of the project’s six enhanced packages. The other three are Package 1 of the KEC-CCECC JV and Package 2 of the APCO-CRFG JV of L&T. Since December 2023, trial runs (train and system testing) have been conducted on a 25-kilometre line between the stations of Duhai and Meerut South, which is situated on Lot 1 of Package 3 and a portion of Lot 2.
