Ramky Infrastructure wins FICCI’s award for sustainable cities
The esteemed FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024 in the “Sustainable Cities” category has been given to Ramky Infrastructure Limited. Their noteworthy assistance in treating and disposing of legacy leachate in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana, is acknowledged with this award.
In an effort to promote discussion and creative solutions for pressing urban infrastructure development concerns, the prize was given out during the 5th Smart Urban Innovation Awards, which were held in conjunction with the 7th FICCI Cities Summit. From a record-breaking 98 entries, Ramky was one of 10 organizations—corporates, government agencies, and educational institutions—that were recognised for their contributions to the country’s smart cities agenda.
Legacy leachate is a hazardous waste byproduct that contaminates groundwater and surrounding bodies of water, posing a major environmental risk. A 2,000 KLD leachate treatment plant was part of Ramky’s creative solution to this problem. The stabilisation and restoration of ponds close to the waste treatment facility was another aspect of this project. With the initial projected volume of legacy leachate in Hyderabad reaching 849,780.88 Kilolitres (KL), the project notably addressed a considerable obstacle.
“We are honoured to receive the Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024 under the Sustainable Cities category,” says Y.R. Nagaraja, Managing Director, Ramky Infrastructure Limited“This honour demonstrates Ramky’s steadfast dedication to offering urban solutions that clear the path for our communities to have a sustainable future. This dedication is demonstrated by the Hyderabad leachate treatment plant, the first of its type in the nation and a model for similar initiatives to come. Our commitment to creating and implementing infrastructure solutions that support both the current and upcoming generations’ access to a cleaner and healthier future endures.”
