Kolkata being the mining hub, and main business, commercial and financial hub of eastern India and north eastern states has been chosen the centre for the event. This is a celebration event since India is today the fifth largest producer of crude steel, ahead of South Korea and Germany, once the leaders in this field. India is the World's largest producer of mica blocs and splitting, 3rd in global chromite, coal, lignite and barites producers, 4th in the production of iron –ore etc. It is estimated that 82 billion tones of reserves of various minerals is yet to be tapped.
Organised by MGMI in association with Tafcon the 4th International Mining Exploration Mineral Processing and Machinery Exhibition (IME) provides an ideal forum for the miners, planners and policy makers to discuss the various issues affecting the mining industry in the Asian region in particular, and also in the rest of the world. The event provides an excellent business opportunity for the manufactures of mining and allied industry to showcase their technologies, new initiatives, products and services to the global audience. Around 250 Stands, 600 Delegates, 15,000 Trade Visitors and 25 Countries are expected to participate in this event.
The participants, exhibitors and visitors can absorb and transfer latest global technology, find source of raw materials and market of finished products, Identify alternate suppliers of machinery, equipments & spare, Identify source of investment & funding, Negotiate with overseas companies to establish a manufacturing base in India. The exhibition provides opportunity of face to face interaction with industry player at one place, fulfils requirements of professional & skilled man power, Identify new export destination as well as network in India besides brand building among industry & new users.
The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy in the mining sector after liberalisation in 1997, opened up an “automatic approval” route for investments involving foreign equity participation upto 50% in mining projects, and upto 74% in services incidental to mining. The FDI in the mining sector for all non-atomic and non-fuel minerals have now been fully opened upto 100% through the automatic route including diamonds and precious stones. Being aware of the vast potential of the sector, the Indian Government has been consistently and in a pragmatic manner opening up the previously controlled regime to usher private investment in the sector and infuse funds, technology and managerial expertise. The opening up of the Indian mining sector has, therefore, generated considerable global interest.
The new Mining Policy also seeks to develop a sustainable framework for optimum utilization of the country’s natural mineral resources for the industrial growth in the country and at the same time improving the life of people living in the mining areas, which are generally located in the backward and tribal regions of the country.
The International Mining Exhibition 2012 will have participants among machinery / equipment manufacturers, exporters and importers, professionals and trade visitors from India and overseas, foreign missions & industry associations. The event is a unique platform for Entrepreneurs, Decision Makers, Senior Government Officials, Investors, Industry Members, Traders, Equipment Buyers & Suppliers, Academia, Miners, Engineers and Trade Delegation to congregate, brainstorm, showcase and forge meaningful partnership for business.
