India to develop 35 cities to spur tourism [Jan 2012]
The Indian Government plans to develop 35 tourist cities in the next five years to attract more tourists in the country. The Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai said tourist places would be developed through Public-Private Partnership. The Ministry had appointed a national-level consultant, which was in the process of identification of the four tourist circuits and two rural clusters in each state. The Tourism Ministry has asked the Planning Commission for an allocation of about Rs.23 crore in the 12th Five Year Plan for this project.
