Mumbai to host IGBC’s Green Building Congress 2016 in October

The city of Mumbai- ‘Green buildings capital of India’ will host the 14th annual edition of IGBC’s Green Building Congress 2016 between 5 and 8 October in Mumbai. This is one such event for the stakeholders of construction industry to learn, share and explore new growth opportunities in green buildings and sustainable built environment.

Dr Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC highlighted that, with several States offering incentives to green building projects, IGBC’s green building rating system has emerged as a National rating. Today, IGBC rating system has become National by choice and global in performance and is evoking excellent response from the stakeholders, he underlined. In days to come, IGBC will play a more important role in building a greener and healthier India, added Dr Jain.

V Suresh, Chair, IGBC Policy & Advocacy Committee said that excellent support from both the Central and State Government is going a long way in further accelerating the green building movement in the country. He said that Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) in a recent notification has informed that its departments will adopt IGBC green building rating system. This augurs well to the green building movement, he underlined.

Gurmit Singh Arora, Co-chair, IGBC Mumbai Chapter underlined that, State of Maharashtra and city of Mumbai in particular has a very important role in accelerating the adoption & promotion of green buildings and built-environment across the country.

Arora said that the need of the hour is to demonstrate the manifold benefits of green buildings to the stakeholders. This is what Green Building Congress 2016 aims to achieve, he said.
