Panasonic expands lighting business in Daman
A new manufacturing facility has been established in Daman, Gujarat, by Panasonic Life Solutions India (PEWIN), one of the nation’s leading producers of electrical building materials (ECM).
PeWIN’s lighting manufacturing capacity in India will be increased by the new dedicated facility in addition to the company’s current manufacturing capabilities. To support internal lighting product manufacturing and align with the firm’s growth objectives, the company has invested a total of INR 15 million. By 2030, PEWIN hopes to dominate the lighting market with this investment and a planned expansion plan.
Speaking on this new launch, Kuniyasu Shimaoka, Managing Director of the Global Lighting business at Panasonic Corporation, says, “We see enormous potential in India, especially with regards to the manufacturing industry. The investment is for INR 15 million and is set with the objective of expanding our business in India. Keeping in mind the 10th anniversary of Make in India, Panasonic (PEWIN) aims to start manufacturing in Daman to speed up inland manufacturing while continuing business with Indian suppliers.”
The factory is positioned to take advantage of the steadily increasing demand for lighting goods in the North and West. India can take advantage of its current experience in the manufacturing of electrical materials to set a global standard for technology and quality management systems. This will enable the country to produce lighting fixtures more quickly and with higher quality.
Speaking on this new initiative, Masato Miyamaru, Director, Lighting Business, PEWIN, says,” Panasonic aims to become the leading player in the lighting segment in the Indian market by FY2030. In terms of attracting more clients and projects across India, we aim to significantly ramp up operations. The geographic location of the facility in Daman adds strength to our existing operations, where we already have a robust network of essential suppliers. Our main intent to have internal production is to share Panasonic’s quality management experience with our suppliers.”
Adding to the same, Tomohisa Oishi, Senior General Manager of Business & Strategic Planning and Manufacturing Head of Lighting Business, PEWIN, says, “The primary objective is to expand our manufacturing lines in India to boost our business, as the Indian lighting industry is anticipated to undergo a shift towards becoming a more selective market for superior products. Panasonic strives to satisfy the needs and demands of both our customers and the market while aiming to be ahead of the curve. For us, internal manufacturing is one of the most crucial aspects.”
Before extending to other product lines, the recently opened plant will initially produce lighting fixtures, including downlights. This year, FY2024, will see a 115 percent expansion in the manufacturing capacity for the entire lighting business, which is currently 1.5 lakh units in the first year.
By 2030, Panasonic Life Solutions India (PEWIN) hopes to become the top lighting supplier in India by expanding its lighting business. The goal is to improve people’s quality of life while maximising India’s potential for future prosperity. Mostly in the commercial and professional industries, they will provide their customers with innovative solutions and goods (manufactured with high-quality, high-efficiency, and eco-friendly Indian and Japanese technologies). To achieve its objectives, the company plans to implement key business initiatives between FY2023 and FY2024.
