RINL expanded Visakhapatnam steel plant

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited  has commenced structural erection work, equipment erection of boiler and other civil works at the 120 MW blast furnace gas-based captive power plant two of Visakhapatnam steel plant as part of expansion of 6.3 million tonnes a year. AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL-VSP launched the works related to the power plant being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 677 crore. This is a unique power plant utilising the 100 per cent blast furnace gas (BFG) for power generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Choudhary said, “This is a milestone in the expansion and very important for VSP to meet its power requirements. The new power plant is environment friendly and pollution free by using 100 per cent BFG for generation of power. RINL is planning to add another 120 MW of power to the present capacity by using NEDO technology, commissioning of Turbo Generator – 5 very shortly, taking the total power generation capacity of RINL to around 400 MW.”
