Ruukki opens new sales office in Mumbai [July 2012]
In an aim to strengthen its presence in the emerging market, special steels producer Ruukki opened a new sales office in Mumbai. Inaugurating the new office, Jouni Rattya, Vice President of Ruukki Metals said, “India is an important market as far as Ruukki is concerned. Our focus in India is on sales of high-strength Ruukki Optim and wear-resistant Ruukki Raex special steels for customers in transportation as well as in construction and mining equipment manufacturing”. “Our approach is to be close to our customers to ensure we give them fast service and that we are easily accessible to help them find solutions for their applications”, he adds. “The growing construction and mining industries in these markets are increasing the demand for special steel products, which is why we want to strengthen our special steels sales network here,” said Sharad Rastogi, Ruukki’s Country Manager, India.
Ruukki has been present in India through Steelforce, which also stocks Ruukki’s special steels. Present in the occasion, Rakesh Sharma, Associate Director of Steelforce expressed, “We are having a relationship of over 25 years and would like to continue our long-term cooperation”.According to Jouni Rattya, “Raex steels are used in wearing parts of construction and mining machinery and can help to decrease the repair cost of equipment. The lifetime of an excavator bucket made of Raex wear-resistant steel can be about 2 or 3 times longer than a similar bucket made of standard steel”. In applications that require increased payload, the use of wear-resistant Raex and high-strength Optim steels can reduce the thickness of steel and the weight of the tipper bodies by 20 per cent. “Use of special steel products can reduce weight and noticeably cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions”, Jouni Rattya assured.
