RVNL to develop six-lane road for Visakhapatnam port

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) secured an NHAI project worth ₹5,546.4 crore to develop a six-lane road, improving Visakhapatnam Port access and boosting trade.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) awarded RVNL a contract worth ₹5,546.4 crore to build a six-lane road connecting Visakhapatnam Port. This major infrastructure project aims to improve connectivity, cargo transportation efficiency, and economic growth in the area.
The project will be developed using the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), which is expected to improve traffic flow between Visakhapatnam Port and key industrial hubs. The improved infrastructure will help to reduce congestion, lower transportation costs, and speed up the movement of goods, making Visakhapatnam a more appealing trade and commerce hub.
Visakhapatnam Port is one of India’s busiest ports, with an important role in the country’s maritime trade and industrial supply chain. Due to increased trade volumes, the current road infrastructure is experiencing significant traffic congestion. The construction of this six-lane connectivity corridor will improve logistics operations, benefiting industries like steel, petroleum, and coal that rely on efficient port access. The project also aligns with the government’s commitment to strengthening port-related infrastructure as part of a larger vision to improve logistics and transportation networks throughout India.
RVNL’s experience executing large-scale infrastructure projects makes it a strong candidate for such high-value contracts. Over the years, the company has played an important role in modernising India’s railway and road networks, helping to drive the country’s economic development. The new six-lane corridor is expected to improve connectivity, create jobs, and attract additional investment to the region.
In addition to reducing congestion and increasing efficiency, the project is expected to have a positive environmental impact by lowering vehicular emissions through more efficient traffic flow. The use of advanced construction techniques and sustainable materials will increase the road network’s durability and efficiency.
By connecting Visakhapatnam Port to the national highway system, the six-lane road will strengthen the city’s standing as a major hub for trade and logistics. The project is a significant step towards modernising India’s transport infrastructure, which will ultimately benefit the country’s long-term economic growth and development.
