Surjagad Ispat Steel Project launched in Gadchiroli
At the launch of the Rs 10,000 crore Surjagad Ispat steel project in Gadchiroli, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis hope to create 7,000 employment and establish the district as Maharashtra’s premier steel hub.
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis lay the cornerstone for the Surjagad Ispat steel project in Gadchiroli in a historic ceremony. With a Rs 10,000 crore investment, this massive project is anticipated to directly and indirectly create jobs for around 7,000 people.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis says at the event that he is optimistic Gadchiroli district will soon overtake all other districts in the state in terms of advancement. He emphasises that in the future, thirty percent of the steel produced in the state will come from Gadchiroli alone. Gadchiroli would emerge as Maharashtra’s most important district and the nation’s biggest steel hub, Fadnavis says.
He mentiones the proposed building of an airport in the area and the founding of a medical college when discussing the benefits of industry for the tribal population. Fadnavis announced plans to start water transit from Chamorshi to Kakinada port and turn Gadchiroli into a centre for education.
Ajit Dada Pawar, the deputy chief minister, spoke about the importance of launching a large business in Gadchiroli with a Rs. 10,000 crore investment. He emphasised that in addition to meeting the nation’s steel requirements, this initiative will create a large number of employment possibilities for locals.
“We are establishing an integrated steel plant in the Naxal-affected region of Wadlapeth village, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, covering an area of 340 acres,” says Vedansh Joshi, MD of Surjagad Ispat. Our project comprises a 1.6 MTPA Beneficiation Plant, a 1.2 MTPA Pellet Plant, a 4 x 650 TPD Sponge Iron Plant, a 0.75 MTPA Induction Furnace, a 0.75 MTPA Rolling Mill, a 120 MW Captive Power Plant, and a 1.2 MTPA Pellet Plant. In phase 2, we intend to expand this plant up to a 2 million tonnes built steel plant. After everything is done, we want to produce eight million tonnes of integrated steel.
Prominent dignitaries and Cabinet Ministers Uday Samant and Dr. Dharmaraobaba Atram graced the Bhoomi Pujan function. Also there were a number of government representatives. The project plans to start its first phase in 2026 and finish in its entirety by 2030.
