An Amalgamation Of Experiential Concepts

Rahul Mistri speaks on curating interior schemes across various typologies, resulting from modernist sensibilities, unusual aesthetics, and environmentalism.

The notion of beauty is often derogatory. It is often confined to how pleasing it seems to your senses, especially sight. How do you take both aesthetics and functionality
along?
Interior design is a larger basket consisting of experiential concepts matched with requirements. With innumerable design styles and ideas, enhanced interior spaces resulting from eclectic dynamism. Sculpting established concepts into newer and subjective solutions and amalgamating them with client briefs from the stage of planning and conceptualisation can create impressive and efficient interior spaces.

Detailed design is about size, shape, material and tolerances. How do you think furniture plays a vital role in interiors?

Briskly, design approaches are growing into new and relevant chapters. Furniture creation and curation is a powerful and relevant trend in today’s array of interior schemes across various typologies, resulting from modernist sensibilities, unusual aesthetics, and environmentalism. Furniture alternatives that are exquisite displays of explorations in form and a play of materials can transform the elevational quality of any space.

All design is strengthened by using furniture pieces – constructed or imported with an exceptional focus on detail and quality. With an experimental attitude towards residential decor, one can achieve innovative yet personalised concepts for incorporating furniture within the design solutions.

Interior Designing is all about curating comfort; according to you, what is a “good” design?

In addition to aesthetics and functionality, the persona of the room depends on the textural quality of all the surfaces within. With interior design, we can alter essential variables like the visual palette, lighting, proportions, materials, etc., to positively influence the mood and well-being of the end-user. According to us at the Open Atelier Mumbai Studio, “good design” is essentially a holistic scheme derived from a rooted understanding of how it affects lifestyles.

Considering all the complexities, needs and necessities, what should today’s kitchens look like?

An organised kitchen can be curated with meticulous attention to detail right from the stage of inception. In addition to essential requirements, the layer of automation and appliances can be pre-planned and placed within a layout to have de- cluttered counter space.

Providing ample storage cabinetry in serene finishes can achieve an organised, comfortable, and functional cooking experience. Catering to minimalism and clean kitchen visuals, decor in the form of material versatility and mood boards combined with suitable lighting can bring chaos-free spatial expertise to your kitchen spaces.

Which materials do you prefer the most, which are energy efficient and resemble the modern look and feel of your interiors?

The choice of materials relies on factors such as theme, budget, aesthetics, sustainability and most importantly, its correspondence with other materials within the space.
Keeping energy efficiency in mind, one can opt for rustic and natural materials like processed wood, bamboo, rattan, and processed concrete. If paired with suitable finishes and installed with meticulous attention, such simple materials can provide an ethereal look and feel to your interiors.
