QUALICOAT ventures into Indian market via general licensee Qualindal
Amidst much aplomb, Qualindal was for the 1st time introduced to Indian aluminium industry as the general licensee for QUALICOAT, Zurich. A special introductory session was organised during the 5th ZAK — world of façade conference on June 14th in Chennai, explaining about the mission and goals of Qualindal and its commitment to bring the quality in surface finishes for architectural aluminium in India. Qualindal will not be formed as for profit organisation that shall work toward best practices in surface finish industry for architectural aluminium.
The delegates from across various trades’ vis-à-vis architects, developers, consultants, system suppliers and façade contractors attended the conference and applauded the Qualindal initiative. “Today when everyone is talking about product and service standardisation, the importance of accountability when a system fails, and the warranties to be offered, it’s imperative to have certain guidelines and specifications to fall back to when it comes to powder coating and anodising too,” agreed Rajeev Antony, MD, Shueco India.
Currently, there are more than 5,000 applicators in India. Only around 25 of them use standardised products and techniques. There is a need to create awareness amongst the user and the specifier. And Qualindal will take the responsibility to disseminate the knowledge and information about the latest technologies that are followed worldwide in order to achieve impeccable quality in anodised and powder coated aluminium sections.
Qualindal shall provide best practice rules to obtain a good quality coating on aluminium by establishing specifications for processes, products and tests to be used by the coating plants. It will work on developing and improving these specifications along with guidance and inputs from the parent organisation QUALICOAT. Mo Panam, President, Qualicoat, said, “We are committed to helping develop and improve our quality specification.”
“In the coming months, Qualindal shall reach out to the key decision makers, architects, and promote the inclusion of Qualicoat approved in the tenders specifications with help and support from industry leaders such as L&T who are already keen to incorporate the same,” said Esha Sharma, Convener, Qualindal.
Apart from working on the standardisation and specification, Qualindal will work toward granting licenses to coating plants that apply for the quality label and facilitate testing and approval of chemicals and coating products.
