Danfoss & ISHRAE honoured for India’s top sustainable projects

Together, Danfoss and ISHRAE illuminate the path to a sustainable, energy-efficient future for India’s infrastructure.”

Danfoss, a prominent player in the field of energy efficiency and climate technology, partnered with ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) to host the prestigious ‘ACREX Hall of Fame Spotlight’ event at ITC Kakatiya in Hyderabad. The event was graced by the presence of Chandrasekar N S, the National President of ISHRAE, Madhur Sehgal, Head of Danfoss Climate Solutions, nominees from various industries, and representatives from Danfoss and ISHRAE.

The collaborative effort between Danfoss and ISHRAE led to the establishment of the ACREX Hall of Fame (HOF), aimed at identifying and acknowledging outstanding green commercial building projects in India. These projects have not only set global benchmarks in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability but also serve as inspirational examples for the Indian infrastructure industry in shaping the future of the nation. The ACREX Hall of Fame Spotlight event served as a precursor to the grand finale scheduled for February 16, 2024, at IEML, Greater Noida, Delhi NCR.

The process for nominating candidates for the 2024 Hall of Fame induction has begun, with registrations accepted through Spotlight events, online promotions, and referrals. Entries will undergo initial scrutiny and shortlisting by the ISHRAE technical committee, followed by the final selection of inductees into the Hall of Fame by a distinguished cross-functional jury comprising experts from the fields of HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration), government, architecture, and the building industry. The ACREX HOF portal is now open to receive nominations from the commercial building sectors across the country.

Chandrasekar N S, Immediate Past President of ISHRAE, expressed, “The ACREX Hall of Fame (HoF), initiated by ISHRAE and Danfoss, has set a high standard for recognizing India’s iconic green buildings based on energy performance in various areas such as HVAC&R, water and natural lighting, vertical transportation, plumbing, external facade, and more. Notably, the assessment considers operational energy performance standards throughout the entire life cycle cost, making it a true measure of sustainability and energy efficiency in infrastructure.”

The recent signing of Asia’s largest district cooling project by the Telangana government highlights the emphasis on cooling as a priority through initiatives like cool roof policies and energy-efficient district cooling. Given India’s rapid infrastructure growth, adopting energy efficiency principles and reducing energy intensity in the sector are essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The central government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

Ravichandran Purushothaman, President of Danfoss India Region, emphasized, “The buildings sector accounts for 40 percent of energy demand and is a significant contributor to CO2 emissions. With two-thirds of India yet to be built, this sector demands immediate action, investment, and policy support to promote both short and long-term energy security, aligning with India’s commitment to a Net Zero transition. Danfoss India believes that the ACREX Hall of Fame should serve as a wellspring of inspiration, offering guiding principles and insights to make future infrastructure projects in India more energy-efficient and eco-friendly.”

Since its inception in 2016, ACREX India has gained popularity and has attracted the participation of renowned infrastructure establishments in India. In previous editions, iconic buildings such as ITC Windsor in Bengaluru, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, Infosys EC-53 Building in Bengaluru Campus, ITC Grand Chola Hotel in Chennai, and ISB Mohali Campus have been inducted into the ACREX Hall of Fame.
