PM Modi inaugurates three regional airports for better connectivity

With the aim to improve air connectivity for underserved areas, Prime Minister Modi opened three airports as part of the government’s RCS-UDAN plan.

Under the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opens three additional airports. Particularly in underprivileged areas, the airports at Rewa (Madhya Pradesh), Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), and Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) seek to enhance regional air connection. Soon, flights will be available from these airports under the UDAN program, improving local residents’ access to air travel.

The UDAN program, which was introduced in 2016, has significantly improved air connectivity throughout India, particularly in rural areas. 86 aerodromes have been operationalised thus far, and the program has benefited over 144 lakh people in seven years. The National Civil Aviation Policy’s main component, the program, has fuelled the growth of regional airlines, with newcomers like Flybig and Star Air becoming significant players.

To better service remote areas and increase tourism, the UDAN initiative has gone through multiple phases since its beginning. The advent of helicopter services and aviation routes dedicated to tourism are noteworthy developments. Airports built under UDAN have been essential in boosting travel to places like Ajmer and Khajuraho.

The program has also increased demand for a variety of aircraft, including commercial jets and helicopters, which has helped India’s aviation fleet grow. More than 1,000 aircraft have been ordered by Indian carriers and will be delivered in the upcoming years. Both the regional economy and the aviation industry would benefit greatly from this.

By opening these additional airports, RCS-UDAN is advancing its goal of improving regional aviation infrastructure and lowering the cost and increasing the accessibility of air travel. By connecting formerly underserved areas, these airports will open up new avenues for tourism and economic development. Even the most remote regions will benefit from better air connectivity thanks to the UDAN initiative, which will continue to be a pillar of India’s aviation industry’s growth.
