Ammann seminar highlights innovations in road recycling

Ammann India’s Mumbai seminar brought together experts to discuss recycled asphalt solutions for greener, more cost-effective road construction across the country.
Ammann India, a leader in road construction technology, held its Asphalt Recycling Seminar in Mumbai, the nation’s financial centre, in response to the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure. The event brought together industry leaders, technical experts, and partners to discuss how cutting-edge recycling technologies will shape the future of eco-friendly road construction in India.
Circular construction techniques are more important than ever as India speeds up its shift to greener infrastructure, especially when it comes to building roads. The seminar aimed to address a critical industry need by providing stakeholders with the technical knowledge and strategic clarity required to translate sustainability goals into actionable, on-the-ground results. From insightful keynotes and technical deep dives to engaging panel discussions, the seminar highlighted the future of road construction with RAP (Recycled Asphalt Pavement), particularly in relation to its use on Indian roads. The event provided a collaborative platform for highlighting emerging trends, sharing best practices, and dispelling common myths about asphalt recycling and sustainable road building.
Material management, temperature control, and binder rejuvenation were among the key topics discussed at the event, with real-world case studies demonstrating that RAP roads can match or exceed conventional durability. Experts also emphasised the importance of rejuvenating agents for effective binder integration, as well as the need for standardised regulations, skill development, and better procurement practices to increase recycling in India.
The importance of sustainable innovation in influencing the direction of road infrastructure was emphasised by Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director, Ammann India, in his remarks to the audience. “With both global and Indian markets shifting decisively towards sustainable construction practices, technologies like asphalt recycling have become the need of the hour. At Ammann, our 150-year legacy of innovation drives us to deliver future-forward solutions that not only meet evolving industry demands but also reduce carbon emissions and reliance on virgin resources. We’re proud to lead the way in India by enabling up to 100 percent use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship and cost-efficiency. As the government champions greener highways, our advanced recycling technologies are poised to play a pivotal role in making this vision a reality.”
Dr. Ambika Behl (F.I.E), Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CRRI, and Prof. Dharamveer Singh, Civil Engineering Professor at IIT Bombay, were among the other notable speakers at the event, as was Martinho Fernandes, AVP & Product Head – Asphalt Plants, Ammann India. Their contributions provided nuanced perspectives on overcoming technical and operational challenges in the field.
Currently, RAP usage in India is relatively low, typically under 30 percent. Ammann is committed to significantly increasing this, with the goal of scaling adoption up to 60 percent and even 100 percent, which supports sustainability and delivers significant cost and time savings in line with India’s overall infrastructure development goals.
Ammann India’s leadership in providing intelligent, environmentally friendly, and cutting-edge road-building solutions that are in line with national priorities was reaffirmed at the event’s conclusion, which included a unified call for industry collaboration, research, and practical implementation.
