Kushinagar Airport, Uttar Pradesh is a very special project for Mehler Technologies

That apart we have also supplied good quantities of fabric for another big project “Milan Mela, Kolkata”. It is the largest exhibition centre in Kolkata with 31,894 square metres of exhibition space says Priyanka Latwal, Business Development Manager, Mehler Technologies

2020-21 was a cautious year for conducting business, can you brief us on a few projects which have kept you busy?
In spite of so many challenges Mehler Texnologies has been lucky to get some good prestigious projects in 2020-2021. We have supplied fabrics for “Kushinagar Airport, Uttar Pradesh”. This is a very special project as it’s the first ever International Airport in India which is built completely with tensile membranes and is deployable. A complete airport terminal building which includes the main roof, false ceiling and pick & drop canopies. The main roof is a 100% blackout fabric which does not allow solar light to pass through the fabric. It’s a 100% UV retardant fabric with a special nano lacquering. The false ceiling is made with Valmex TF attractive: a perforated material with 3% openness for a balanced level of shading and light transmission. Whether inside or outside, it is an eye-catcher in the field of shading materials.
We have supplied good quantities of fabric for another big project “Milan Mela, Kolkata”. It is the largest exhibition centre in Kolkata with 31,894 square metres of exhibition space. Mehler Texnologies has supplied approx. 85000 sq.ft of tensile membrane for beautiful canopies at the entrance & food court of Milan Mela ground. This project is coming up with a huge tensile façade where we are supplying approx. 100000 sq.ft of membranes. There are some other projects like Agartala Airport, Birsa Munda Jail Park & some private projects like the atrium at Paras One 33, Some school projects etc where we have supplied our membranes.

What are some of the advantages tensile structures offer and in what kind of projects are they most suitable for?
The advantages of membrane structures become particularly clear in the case of roofing. They are lighter than conventional materials, are entirely or in large part prefabricated at the assembly company and can be put up on site very quickly. This saves time, keeps scheduling reliable and reduces construction costs appreciably. The recent modular structures can be erected in minimum 90 – 100 days and can be shifted to a new location whenever required. If required, it can be further extended. Membrane structures also fulfil modern requirements in respect of sustainability: less material, fewer equipment and shorter build times mean lower CO2 emissions and the potential for recycling. Roof structures that in the broadest sense have a ‘tent-like character’ are perceived as shielding, festive and snug.
The membranes used for most constructions are translucent. The daylight shining through imparts a natural ambience and the building is perceived not as dominating but as homely. In addition to the classic building materials of stone, concrete, steel, wood and glass, technical textiles are being increasingly used both in new builds and in refurbishments. Such membrane structures give the buildings a special aesthetic appeal.
