Light design is an integral part of creative process

The light complements the story we tell through our spaces and creating a sense of suspense and surprise says Andrea Andreotti, Design Head at Ultraconfidentiel.

What is the role of lighting in well designed interiors?
For Ultraconfidentiel, light design is an integral part of our creative process. The light complements the story we tell through our spaces and creating that sense of suspense and surprise that makes our projects interesting environments to discover. Before artificial light, it is necessary to design the natural light and this is why our projects are born from enhancing and making the most of natural light, thus reducing the energy consumption and the use of artificial sources.

How does mood-lighting aid in creating the desired dose of ambiance in a given space?
A fundamental characteristic for the designed light is the creation of rhythm. We don’t believe in flat atmospheres but we try to create a continuous change from shaded to more illuminated spaces, scenarios that help our eyes and our mind to better live the spaces and involuntarily understand the spatial hierarchies.

When it comes to lighting in retail and commercial spaces vis a vis residential spaces, how does it differ?
In commercial spaces, unlike residential spaces, in addition to having a specific technical function, i.e. ensuring minimum lux at the regulatory level, light has above all a communicative function: it is a fundamental tool that supports sales and increment of performances of an office or commercial activity. For this reason, Ultraconfidentiel firmly believes that light must create the desired emotions to encourage specific actions to the end user.

What kind of lighting can incorporate energy efficiency in a given space without compromising on the aesthetics?
The light design must be contextual to be sustainable. We can install low consumption LED lights, guarantee lux, dimer and colour changes (RGB Lighting), but if the space is not designed in the right way, those innovative technologies are no longer sustainable.
