What is the most advanced and innovative product introduced by your company?Tata BlueScope Building Products, a business division of Tata BlueScope Steel Ltd., offers under the LYSAGHT brand 11 roof and wall cladding profiles and two decking profiles to meet the varied needs of the infrastructure, industrial, commercial and residential sectors.
The division has been catering to the changing requirements of its customers, and with this it has introduced LYSAGHT SMARTDEK 51, an innovative high strength zinc-coated structural decking system profile. SMARTDEK 51 is designed for construction of composite floor slabs. It is specifically developed for the Indian construction industry and is one of the most economical structural steel decking systems in the country. Taking into account the Indian project management practices, SMARTDEK 51 with its unique features has helped to reduce both time and cost overrun during the execution of various projects.
What were the factors that indicated the requirement to launch this product?SMARTDEK 51 was designed to enable faster construction and reduce overall project costs. This innovation structural decking system is being highly recommended for constructing high rise building projects. SMARTDEK 51 can be used for composite floor slabs over conventional building products such as bricks, sand, cement and aggregates. Moreover, with the constant decrease in the availability of labour, a need has been created for ready-to-use kind of products like SMARTDEK 51 in today’s growing mechanised construction environment.
Would you give us an overview of the features of SMARTDEK 51?SMARTDEK 51 offers some essential key features to its customers. These includea wider span which helps in minimising the requirement for reinforcement and acts as bottom tensile reinforcement when concrete hardens while reducing overall cost of formwork. SMARTDEK 51has excellent spanning capacity that ensures greater strength and less deflection. The product has specially designed embossments on top of the flange that provides excellent mechanical interlocking between steel and concrete, thereby creating a stronger structure. Moreover, being precision engineered, it offers greater economy and design freedom. It also provides ease of use combined with safety.
What could be the applications of SMARTDEK 51?Besides its application in composite floors in multi-storey buildings and commercial establishments, SMARTDEK 51 is extensively used for mezzanine applications. Its corrosion resistant coating makes it the best solution for typical applications like parking sheds, where SMARTDEK 51 structural decking systems provide better appearance to exposed ceilings.
How do you see the product performing in the industry?SMARTDEK 51, a structural decking system, has been very well accepted by the Indian construction industry and till date approximately 1.6 million sq. ft. of area has been covered with SMARTDEK 51in India alone. Some of the major projects in which SMARTDEK 51 has been used are Delhi international airport, Mumbai international airport, NTPC-Barh, Mahatma Mandir-Gujarat, Inorbit Mall-Hyderabad etc.
