Metro link connects Navi Mumbai and Mumbai airports

To improve regional transport, CIDCO completes a metro line connecting CSMIA and NMIA, enabling efficient airport access throughout the Mumbai region.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has completed a metro project that will connect Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), marking a significant step in improving regional connectivity. This strategic move aims to improve the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s (MMR) multimodal transportation infrastructure by allowing for seamless travel between the two key airports.
As part of this initiative, CIDCO is accelerating the construction of a 35.6-kilometer metro corridor that will provide a direct route between NMIA and CSMIA. The corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time, providing a quick and comfortable alternative for both domestic and international passengers travelling between the two hubs.
According to the Mumbai Metro master plan, CIDCO’s detailed project report (DPR), which outlines plans to integrate the corridor with the current Metro Line 8 (Gold Line), has been approved. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which has submitted its DPR for approval.
The proposed metro line will begin in Mankhurd and travel through key nodes such as Vashi, Belapur, Taloja, and Ulwe before ending at the Navi Mumbai airport. The project is estimated to cost around ₹15,000 crore and will be completed in phases. It also aligns with CIDCO’s overarching goal of transforming NMIA into a multimodal transportation hub, providing last-mile connectivity to various parts of the city and beyond.
It is believed that this metro line will be a game-changing piece of infrastructure that will shorten travel times, ease traffic on the roads, and encourage environmentally friendly transportation. Once operational, the corridor will support the anticipated passenger flow between the two airports while also catering to the growing urban population in Navi Mumbai and the MMR region.
