PEB is the most significant development and improvement in steel building technology
Moreover, steel is the only building material where wastage is zero and over 30 per cent of the cost of the steel building can be recovered whenever it is scrapped, says Arvind Nanda, Founder Director & CEO of Interarch Building Products Pvt Ltd.
What is the significance of PEB in architecture and design?
PEB is the most significant development and improvement in steel building technology in the last 100 years. PEB has completely changed the way architects and designers make buildings quickly and of high quality and design. Architects and designers get a chance to make buildings in steel with shapes as diverse as the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing to the skyscrapers of Shanghai in China.
How will PEB continue to address a number of construction and infrastructure needs in the built environment?
Today the new economy needs aesthetically pleasing buildings which can be built quickly without compromising on quality. PEB offers the infrastructure sector a chance to realise these possibilities in steel. Infrastructure needs of India are beyond imagination currently as we are way behind our requirements. Railways, airports, ports, stadiums, industry, high-rise, refineries, power stations, all can of these can be constructed using PEB.
What are some of the projects you are working on?
Interarch is a leader in PEB and all major companies prefer to work with us. Currently, we are doing a wide range of projects, ranging from ONGC to warehouses for Amazon, IndoSpace, LOGOS, ESR and Flipkart, to a stadium for Varanasi donated by Japan to India, as also factories for PepsiCo and Coca-Cola. Likewise, we are also working with multinationals like Plasser, Kia Motors and MG Motors, and a range of Japanese companies like Hitachi, Takenaka, SMCC and CEAT Tyres.
Kindly elucidate on the recyclability of your buildings which makes them sustainable?
Steel is totally a green material and 100 per cent recyclable. It’s the only building material where wastage is zero and in fact, over 30 per cent of the cost of the steel building can be recovered whenever it is scrapped. Most buildings we make are green buildings. combined with solar power systems, these are the most sustainable and recyclable buildings on earth.
