‘India, a major anchor for information processing and Asia’s shipping business growth’

Japanese ocean carrier MOL, a shipping and multi-modal transportation company said that it sees India as a major hub for its shipping and back office operations. MOL’s wholly owned data processing subsidiary in India has announced opening of their largest information processing facility in Hyderabad. The 25,000 sq. ft. facility at Premier Mindspace Raheja IT Park in Hyderabad will house 450 information process experts.

Nirma receives setback; it’s proposed cement plant on ‘wasteland’ is ‘wetland’

The Nirma Industries received a set back after the Environment Ministry decided that the land in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar area was a ‘wetland’ and an environmentally sensitive area. The company was planning to construct a cement plant on the said land. This is good news for the farmers of that particular area. The ministry came to an outcome after it appointed five scientists, who visited the site and came to this conclusion. The land was initially classified as a ‘wasteland’. The construction of a dyke or bandara converted the coastal saline natural ecosystem into a freshwater ecosystem.

Punj Lloyd wins Rs. 678 Cr EPC contract from NPCIL

Punj Lloyd won an EPC contract worth Rs. 678 crore from NPCIL for its critical piping work. The work will be held at four Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) of 700 MWe (Mega Watt electric) each. The construction should be completed in four years. The first two reactors are located at Kakrapara Atomic Power Project, KAPP 3 & 4 near Surat in Gujarat and the other two are at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project, RAPP 7 & 8 near Kota in Rajasthan.

Rs. 1,000 crore Jaigad port by March 2012

Goa based Chowgule Group has started its Rs. 1,000 crore project work after it commenced the construction of its multi-cargo port in June last year. Jaigad port which is situated on the Konkan coast, 110 nautical miles south of Mumbai is expected to function completely by March 2012. The project will be funded on 70:30 debt-equity ratios, out of which the debt portion has already been tied-up.

Bombardier gets contract for major

Bombardier Transportation has been awarded the major contract for the Sub Surface Railway (SSR) automatic train control (ATC) signalling upgrade for London Underground in the UK. The contract, valued at approximately US $ 577 million, is a part of London Underground’s SSR Upgrade Programme (SUP). Bombardier will provide the proven CITYFLO 650 ATC system, its innovative communication-based train control (CBTC) technology, similar to that running successfully on the Metro de Madrid in Spain.
