Tata Projects wins the contract to construct the new parliament building
The new parliament building may be realised soon. The tender for the building which elicited a response from major construction and infra players in India has been won by Tata Projects Ltd. Tata Projects edged out Larsen and Toubro Ltd which had submitted a bid of Rs 865 crore. Tata Projects had placed a bid for Rs 861.90 crore major media sources have confirmed.
The new parliament building is expected to be completed in 21 months time. There will be no disruption of day to day activities as the existing parliment building will continue to function for the entire time period of the execution of the project.
Last year well-known architect Bimal Patel’s firm HCP Designs was chosen as the architectural consultant for the parliment building as also the central secratariat complex, he had said that the existing parliment building will be retrofitted to make it earthquake proof. The capacity of the secratariat buildings to house more employees is also on the cards. The buildings which house 25,000 employees currently will accomodate 70,000 employees after the new complex is built.
