IGBC awards DP World with platinum certification

Chennai Economic Zone gets prestigious IGBC’s green certification for sustainability after DP World Nhava Sheva Business Park

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) awarded DP World, a preeminent worldwide supplier of intelligent end-to-end supply chain solutions, a Platinum accreditation for its Chennai Economic Zone. This is the second one for India’s DP World Economic Zones in quick succession. The IGBC logistics parks and warehousing rating system certified DP World Nhava Sheva Business Park as the first free trade zone to get Platinum certification earlier this year.

The Platinum certification is the highest international standard for green design, construction, and operations, and is awarded by the IGBC grading systems.

Modern Free Trade Warehouse Zone (FTWZ) constructed by DP World in Chennai, close to three important ports: Kattupalli, Ennore, and Chennai. Approximately 40 percent of FTWZ’s power needs will be met by the 1 MW solar panel installation and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located in the warehouses of DP World’s Chennai Economic Zone. These installations are in line with internationally recognised environmentally acceptable practices. With the capacity to expand to two million square feet, the facility occupies 600,000 square feet and is developed in accordance with international standards and Green Building Certification requirements.

Senior Vice President for Economic Zones, Middle East, North Africa, and Subcontinent Ranjit Ray commented on the accomplishment, saying, “We are honoured to receive the IGBC Platinum Certification for a second time.” This accomplishment demonstrates our dedication to eco-friendly procedures and top-notch business operations. I am pleased with our team’s commitment to upholding strict environmental standards and their diligence in doing so. Their efforts have continued to fuel our progress and establish new standards inside our sector.”

The economic zone serves a number of industries by giving them a strategic foundation in the Indian subcontinent with easy access to the Far East, South-East Asia, and Australia. These industries include automotive, electronics, IT, telecom, healthcare, chemicals, and petrochemicals. The Chennai Economic Zone, which is located nearer to the DP World Chennai terminal, supports DP World’s “One Port, One Zone” philosophy and increases India’s competitiveness in international trade.
