Hindware’s commitment to environment is a sustained effort. Its water-saving products are ideal for green or sustainable buildings as efficient use of natural resources is one of their criteria. In an exclusive interview with ACE Update, Sandip Somany talks about green revolution and how Hindware is adding value with its innovative products.
Role in green buildingsBrand ‘Hindware’ from HSIL Ltd. is an industry in the organised sector, and innovation lies at its heart. Offering sanitary ware and bathroom products for over five decades, Hindware is the only brand to have an in-house R&D facility which works towards developing new products utilising modern technology. The facility works tirelessly to find the best possible way to reduce the quantity of water consumed in water closets, faucets and shower heads. These water-saving products are ideal for green or sustainable buildings as efficient use of natural resources is one of their criteria, which brand Hindware can fulfil.
Essential products for green buildingsBack in 70s, water closets used 15 litres of water per flush. However, population growth and resource depletion rapidly expanding, water-saving products the solution. Brand ‘Hindware’ has always been at the forefront of using technology. Some of its essential green products are:
• NANO: NANO is water closet which flushes in only 1.5-litre water. It received the Elle Decon International Design Award in 2010 for its innovation and is an ideal product for green buildings, especially used for commercial purpose. It has foot pedal flushing mechanism that stops spread of germs by reducing contact in the restrooms.
• Water Star rating products: Hindware was the first to offer WEP-1 IAPMO certified range of water closets in the market. With 13 water closets bestowed with UPC-1 certification for their ability to reduce water consumption during full flush and half flush, they are suitable for sustainable buildings. The UPC-1 certified products can save up to 50,000 litres of water per year.
• Faucets: The all new 3C technology infused faucets use best in world cartridge with Spanish technology and anti-splash aerators with German technology. Aerators are tiny devices; they fit inside the spout of the faucet and reduce the flow of water by mixing air. The user feels the foamy soft water flowing but eventually it is reducing water consumption by mixing air with water.
There are two-step faucets. The range comes with an ‘eco-click’ water-saving feature which cuts down the flow capacity at a certain angle saving. Hindware also has a series of sensor and pressmatic faucets, fully automatic in function and perfect for green buildings.• Sensor urinals: These are smart and compact and come in various shape, style and design. The Aquafree urinals, again a first by Hindware, uses liquid cartridge instead of water. A pioneering technology, it provides a cost-effective, eco-friendly solution. It is proved to eliminate urinal flooding and provide a more hygienic, odour-free solution.
Trends and opportunitiesHindware’s commitment to environment is a sustained effort. The cycle of innovation never stops. The brand is working on offering the best possible flushing mechanism: flush valves for concealed cisterns, rim-less design to improve flushing efficiency and sensor flushing, to name a few.
In the shower category, Hindware range of showers is equipped with ‘anti-lime rub it’ technology that ensures no lime scale accumulation within the nozzles. These showers prevent any kind of microbial and algal growth. Its soft rubber helps in easy cleaning and maintenance. Products with air-injection technology are also on offer. This technology controls the flow of water for proper distribution and offer better bathing sensation by consuming less water (roughly 60 per cent). What’s special about these showers is that it aerates the water to make the droplets larger, so it can save water without making the water volume feel any lesser.
