Green legacy

“For well over a decade, Kohler Co. has been consistently evaluating and improving its manufacturing processes, business operations, waste management, transportation and so forth,” says Salil Sadanandan, Managing Director, Kohler Kitchen & Bath India
Kohler believes that its products need to be sustainable, and hence the company has ensured that it has the right kind of flushing technology, water conservation and noise reduction. In an interview with ACE Update, Salil Sadanandan talks about Kohler legacy and how it is working on products designed to cater to community at large.
Role in green buildingsSince the company’s inception in 1873, sustainability has been an important part of Kohler Co. In recent years, the company has further increased its focus on environmental sustainability and sets a strategy targeting three key areas: operations, product development, and education and awareness.
• Operations: For well over a decade, Kohler Co. has been consistently evaluating and improving its manufacturing processes, business operations, waste management, transportation, water use and so forth. Kohler has implemented this process across all of the company’s global locations and is now focused on reducing the company’s carbon footprint to achieve its goal, with offsets, of net zero by the year 2035.
• Innovation: Its goal is to introduce safe, gracious ways for improving sanitation. With the help of Cal Tech, Kohler has designed a solar powered toilet that recycles the waste and does not need an extensive plumbing system.
• Products: Kohler has WCs which are designed to perform while saving on water (lesser water consumption). It has also faucet products like showerheads which are designed to deliver same quality showering by using lesser water. This is done by innovatively designing the waterways in the showerheads. These water saving products have been used by various green projects in India
Essential products for green buildingsKohler believes that its products need to be sustainable, and hence the company has ensured that it has the right kind of flushing technology, water conservation and noise reduction in its products.
• Flushing technology Dual flush: Dual flush technology combines exceptional water conservation and outstanding flushing performance. A two-button actuator allows one to choose either a 6.05 l or 3.02 l flush option. Skirted bowls offer a sleek, contemporary design aesthetic and an easy-to-clean surface.
PowerLite: With its newest launch, Karing Integrated Toilet, Kohler has introduced the PowerLite flushing technology in India which only uses 4.8 litres of water.
