The International Elevator and Escalator Expo 2020 successfully concluded as a resourceful platform to gain insights on the latest innovations in the vertical transportation segment. The wide range of components displayed turned out to be a highlight on the show attracting decision makers from major OEMs, realty sector, government officials and other lift manufacturers.
India is the second largest market for elevators and escalators in the world with 80,000 units per annum. Creating an efficient elevator or escalator that matches the country’s infrastructural standards involves highly advanced mechanisms by the components used. The 8th edition of International Elevator and Escalator (IEE) Expo 2020 reflected the same as it successfully enlightened 7,512 business visitors about the modern technologies used to create high-tech equipment for the vertical transportation sector.
Following the grand inauguration, S R Nalavade, Superintending Engineer Industries, Energy and Labour Department, Government of Maharashtra expressed his support, stating: “With the amount of infrastructural progress the city is witnessing, we are expecting many lift installations. For this upcoming industry, we are happy to join Messe Frankfurt India on this platform as they have given a common stage to all manufacturers, distributors and dealers for business in a metro city like Mumbai.”
The show kicked off with exhibitors showcasing live demonstrations of technologies like solar ELOS (a type of solar generator for elevators), hydraulic elevators for passenger and goods, pneumatic vacuum elevators, smart elevator control panels with cloud, to name a few. Talking about the progress of the show and its widening profiles, Nakul Mehta, Managing Director, Bharat Bijlee Ltd, shared: “We have seen this show getting bigger and bigger. The profile of companies who visit and as well as exhibit have evolved and there’s a much wider interest and cross section of people who attend to understand the new developments in this edition. Our main goal was to be able to showcase our products, know what’s happening around us and meet companies we can develop business contacts with. I must say, the show has been a fruitful experience.”
The business visitors attending the show comprised of OEMs, government officials from the infrastructure department, component suppliers and so on. Decision makers from the procurement and technical department from OEM’s like Schindler India Pvt Ltd, Kone Elevator India Pvt Ltd, OTIS Elevators Co India Ltd, Thyssenkrupp Elevator India Pvt Ltd, Fujitec India and Toshiba Johnson Elevators (India) Pvt Ltd visited the component manufacturers and suppliers to gain knowledge and source technologies to help assemble the need-of-the-hour elevators.

Mukesh Jaitley, Director, The Wadhwa Group shared: “As buyers, people just look at the finished product and don’t know what technicalities go inside creating the product. But this edition has given us in-depth insight about the components used to assemble the elevators. During my visit, I liked a product by Epic Elevators which is a small motor and we plan to be in touch with them for future developments.”
Rapid urbanisation is one of the major factors encouraging the growth of this industry followed by schemes like ‘Make in India’ and burgeoning investment opportunities. Every state in India has cities where development is taking place on a large scale with population moving by the minute. The component market in the elevator and escalator sector are constantly under pressure to develop new innovations that will meet the ‘ever-increasing’ demand for advancements that allow design flexibility, high-speed and energy efficiency in the elevators. The latest edition of IEE Expo gave the right amount of impetus to this segment of the industry by providing a lucrative platform to meet their target audience for trade.
Overall, the trade fair has successfully garnered major traction from the right target audience as it encouraged positive business developments for different segments within the industry. The next edition of IEE Expo is set to be scheduled in the year 2022.
