The contract, amounting to 1,040.51 crore, is anticipated to be carried out for 30 months.

Rail Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka (K-RIDE) sent a letter of acceptance (LoA) to Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for the building of an elevated viaduct for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). For the BSRP, which aims to upgrade the city’s public transit system, this represents a breakthrough.

According to the agreed contract, L&T will design and build a raised viaduct of 8.960 km in length and an at-grade viaduct measuring 37.920 km (excluding station buildings). The project will also include ancillary works between Heelalige and Rajanukunte on Corridor-4, also known as the “Kanaka” line of the rail project.

The building of a 500-meter-long BSRP elevated bridge and a double-decker alignment for BSRP Corridors 1 and 4 at Yelahanka are also included in this contract. Benniganahalli, below the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) viaduct, appropriately shares the right of way with BMRCL. In India, this is the first of its kind.

It is expected that the ₹ 1,040.51 crore contract will be completed in 30 months in an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) manner. Moreover, work will probably start soon.

Previously, L&T was also given the contract to work on Corridor-2, which spans 25.2 km from Chillabanawara to Baiyappanahalli. Construction is currently underway. Around 50% of BSRP’s entire project alignment is covered by the 72.08 km of civil work that was awarded in the current tender. The Karnataka government designated Corridors 2 and 4 as Phase-I priority corridors. Corridor-1 and Corridor-3 tenders are anticipated to be invited shortly.
