Rising demand for reliable and tested façade systems

Winwall India shares insights into its façade testing, fire safety solutions, and hardware durability testing, emphasising market trends, changing expectations, and technologies that improve building performance while adhering to international standards.

Can you tell us about your company’s range of façade testing services?
Winwall Technology India Pvt Ltd, a NABL-licensed performance testing facility, conducts tests on glass facades, windows, doors, and handrails used in high-rise structures. We are also accredited to conduct NFPA 285 facade fire testing for ACP or any other cladding system, as well as IS 18190 smoke seal or perimeter fire barrier testing. We are the first commercial laboratory accredited by BIS to test the qualities of processed glass used in building, transportation, and solar panels.  We are the only facility licensed to evaluate the durability of window and door hardware according to EN requirements.

How has the demand for façade testing evolved in recent years?
Using a tested system is quickly gaining popularity, with developers and architects understanding its value in the shape of airtight, watertight, and structurally safe facades. Given the size of current buildings, any errors in the facade’s design cannot be corrected once it has been mounted on the high-rise building.

Can you discuss the integration of smart technologies into facade testing to enhance building performance?
Winwall India is a joint venture with Winwall Technology Pte Ltd, Singapore, one of Asia’s most reputable testing labs, with branches in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam in addition to India. Winwall has always strived to stay at the forefront of technical advancement, using the most dependable and accurate equipment for performance testing. We are collaborating with a PM company to create a complete suite of testing equipment for glass, doors, and wind hardware and software for testing the fire propagation features of a semi-combustible cladding system.

Can you discuss innovative solutions you’ve developed to overcome specific façade-related challenges?
One of the most difficult challenges for Indian door and window makers is sourcing high-quality hardware that is both affordable and long-lasting. Using foreign hardware raises the cost of their windows and doors. While there are several good hardware producers in India, they cannot have their products tested following standards, ensuring the quality of their products to the end user. We are India’s first and only laboratory to create a range of machines to test each type of hardware according to EN standards (IS codes have yet to be issued) and provide test reports on its durability to hardware producers. With this report, the window manufacturer can be confident that the hardware supplied is high quality and long-lasting.
