The JV is to operate a new container terminal in Mundra port
Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd., part of Adani Group, a global integrated infrastructure player, said it had formed a joint venture with Switzerland-based MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, one of the world’s leading shipping companies to operate the “Adani International Container Terminal Private Ltd. (AICTPL)” in South Basin, the 3rd container terminal at Mundra port.
Mundra port, India’s largest private port, has set up this new container terminal which has a capacity of 1.5 million TEUs. The port deploys the largest cranes and has deepest water depths and longest berths heralding a new innings in Indian maritime history. The new terminal has state-of-the-art technology and eco-friendly footprint.
“Adani Ports has been at the forefront of creating modern port infrastructure, catering to the EXIM and domestic needs for over 16 years. The new container terminal will enable the biggest and largest container vessels to seamlessly berth and operate at Mundra. With rapid access to North and West India hinterland, the trade at large will benefit from scale benefits of larger vessels calling at Mundra, in addition to proximity to hinterland markets, providing a compelling cost advantage to port users. The new container terminal will be a regional hub with trans-shipment of international cargo being performed,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group.
“These facilities, along with other terminals in Mundra and Hazira are poised to serve the nation’s sorely needed infrastructure shortages. Furthermore, Adani Ports will be expanding capacity to serve the nation’s port infrastructure needs, providing international standards of capability and cost efficiency,” Mr Adani added. Mundra Port has excellent rail connectivity to North and West India ICDs and operates double stack container trains to ICD Patli and others ICDs in NCR zone.
