India’s first business club to be set up at GIFT City, Gujarat
Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) will get India’s first business club in Gujarat, and the allotment has been made to West India Hospitality Ltd. According to the allotment, the business club will be part of a five-star hotel which West India is going to set up at GIFT City. As per the terms of agreement, the club will be built in the non-SEZ area of GIFT City. The hotel and club would broadly cover around 300 hotel rooms and 40 club rooms respectively. For the hotel and club, the developer has shortlisted Starwood’s Sheraton brand which is the largest brand of Starwood Group with 400 hotels and 140,000 rooms across the world.
Commenting on development of country’s first business club in GIFT City, Ramakant Jha, Managing Director, GIFT City, said, “The need for a separate club covering business activities has been in demand since long. The club has been planned on the theme of business and entertainment. It will have premium meeting, recreational and socialising facilities created to cater to the most elite business community in India. It will be a ‘home away from home’ and also be an ‘office away from the office’. It will provide all the amenities of an office. The club will provide the much needed networking platform that the growing business community needs in Gujarat and India.”
The built-up area of the business club at GIFT City is estimated at about 80,000 square feet. It has been planned to encourage professionals and businessmen in the country to meet at a conducive business environment and at the same time have the flexibility of a club environment to relax. The club will have sports facilities — including executive golf, badminton, table tennis, squash, billiards, tennis, spa, swimming pool and gym — which business community can use during their free time. Mr Jha added, “The concept of business club is essential for any financial services centre and business hub that comes up. We have ensured that the location of the club and hotel is in sync with developer’s plan and other social infrastructure that comes up in GIFT City.”
To give impetus to the overall development in Phase 1, GIFT has very strategically selected the projects, which would add lot of value to the overall development of GIFT City. The Phase 1 of GIFT City covers development of around 10 million sq. feet of commercial built-up area creating around 1 lakh employment and around 2 million sq. feet of residential built-up area covering 3,000 apartments. It would also cover school, hospital, financial services training centre, university, and hotel and club
