LYSAGHT offers superior quality roofing, structural decking solutions for infra projects

With 100 per cent leak proof performance; LYSAGHT brand has become the most preferred choice for railways and metros projects in India says Piyush Nahar – General Manager – Marketing, Tata BlueScope Steel.

What are some of the main factors to be considered while selecting the right kind of roof and roofing solutions?
Roofing is one of the principle construction components that enable longevity of the building; protecting the complete structure from extreme weather. It is critical to select the right material that would ensure structural stability, longer life, low maintenance, greater thermal comfort, high flexibility on design along with superior aesthetics. Whether it is a commercial building or a residential roof; getting the right roofing system one needs to consider factors that include style, functionality and performance. Steel roofing is the most preferred solution due to its tenacity and long term performance.

The factors while choosing the appropriate roofing solutions include life cycle cost, durability and weather-ability. Other important aspects for roofing solution are maintenance, the authenticity of products, correct strength to weight ratio and solutions which are reusable, recyclable and environment friendly.

What kind of roofing solutions do you think are best suited for the Indian climate?
Indian climate is made of a variety of weather conditions across topographies. However, it could be generalised that most part of our country experiences tropical conditions. Roofing innovations in recent times such as metal roofs have addressed issues raised by conventional materials – asbestos sheets, cement sheets, clay tiles and Thatched roofs, scoring high on several factors such as the speed of installation, the durability of the roofing material, design flexibility, overall maintenance and thermal efficiency.

Tata BlueScope Steel has developed specialized roofing products for saline and industrial zones.

Since half of our country is covered with a coastline that stretches upto 8000 kms, the profiles made from COLORBOND Ultra steel, aptly suit the severe marine and industrial environment. It is highly recommended for locations which are closer to the coastline. COLORBOND Ultra steel with a metallic coating of AZ200 (minimum 200gsm AZ coating mass total on both sides) and it’s specially formulated paint system with higher solar reflectance value, provides superior corrosion resistance, excellent colour performance, thermal efficiency with weather ability. It is developed specifically in response to the harsh climatic and weather conditions, including extreme temperature, moisture variations, and intense ultra violet radiation. Being thermally efficient due to Thermatech technology, they are an ideal solution for such locations.

Roofing is desired for homes as also infrastructure projects like railways, metros PEB and warehouses, do you cater to such projects too, if yes, what kind of solutions do you provide for such projects?
The infra project scenario has changed over the years. Planners want to build structures which are large, contemporary and aesthetically sound. In such a market environment, delivering a project with better efficiencies and reliability; using environment friendly, sustainable building materials with greater thermal efficiencies is critical.

For infra projects; our building products brand LYSAGHT offers superior quality roofing systems and structural decking solutions. With 100 per cent leak proof performance the brand has become the most preferred choice for railways and metros projects in India where 90 per cent of projects (including major metros and monorails stations) are covered by LYSAGHT. These profiles are made from COLORBOND steel, the most advanced pre-painted steel products. LYSAGHT solutions offer weather tightness and superior resistance to wind uplift. The Cochin International Airport, the Birsi Airport in Gondia and Jaisalmer airport have LYSAGHT profiles ensuring structural stability. Due to superior aesthetics and design flexibility the profiles are used for public spaces such as BRTS – Ahmedabad and Valpoi Bus Stand Goa which have become an iconic representation.

The brand is associated with the Indian Railways since 2008 and has supplied more than 4 lakh square meter of roofing sheets to over 120 stations in the eastern part of India alone. The brand’s profiles KLIPLOK 700, TRIMDEK 1015 are being specially recommended by organisations like DMRC, Chennai Metro, Kochi Metro, and Bengaluru Metro. LYSAGHT brand is also supplying roofing and decking profiles to the first-of-its-kind Mumbai Monorail Project. On the other hand, Amazon India, Trent Ltd., Prakkhyat infra etc. derive their efficiencies under the roofing solutions provided by us.

With the end of the first quarter, what kind of market opportunities do you feel will be available in the second quarter?
While the post-Covid scenario is being discussed in various forums, the situation is still evolving. We are heading to a new normal where technology will play a key role in every aspect of our lives and the adoption would be much faster. Focus will shift to sustainability in every aspects and Steel has a major role to play as a prime building construction material. Sustainability has been one of our major focus areas and is imbibed in our products and solutions.

The long term growth story of our country being intact, business should look-up in second and third quarter. Segments like infrastructure, solar, railways should come out faster as government focus on infrastructure will continue. We also have a pan-India retail business which is generally more resilient as observed in the past and should start looking up once situation improves gradually. Small and large industrial segments are expected to follow a similar path.
