Shree Cement inaugurates new cement plant in Andhra Pradesh

Shree Cement, one of India’s largest cement producers, inaugurates its new integrated plant at Dachepalli village, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, six months ahead of schedule.

The new Shree Cement plant has a cement production capacity of 3 MTPA. The new facility will increase Shree Cement’s manufacturing capacity to 56.4 MTPA from its current 3 MTPA capacity, thereby reinforcing its position as a major participant in the cement sector.

The Guntur factory, which cost ₹ 2,500 crore to build, would be Shree Cement’s sixth integrated manufacturing site nationwide and its second in the South after Kodla in Karnataka. The plant is ideally situated to serve the expanding markets of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which would boost the local economy. It is anticipated that the new facility will create about 700 direct jobs and 1300 indirect jobs.

Speaking on the occasion, Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, of Shree Cement Ltd, says, “We’re committed to growing responsibly. The Guntur plant reflects this by using advanced technology for manufacturing and controlling emissions, making high-quality cement with efficient use of energy. The plant will also drive economic growth and well-being in the area through employment opportunities and partnerships with local communities. Our focus remains on serving people, suppliers, customers and communities, aiming for inclusive value creation.”

The recently opened plant gives environmental sustainability a lot of attention. This cutting-edge facility is intended to use 30 percent AFR, or alternative fuel and raw materials, such as biomass and municipal trash. With the highest AFR utilisation in the sector, it will establish a benchmark for the Indian industry.

One of the plant’s most notable features is the creative positioning of the limestone crusher inside the mining pit, 40 feet below ground level. By minimising the amount of diesel used, this design decision highlights the plant’s dedication to environmentally responsible operations.

Moreover, a 12 MW internal waste heat recovery plant and a 21.5 MW solar power plant provide almost 75 percent of the total power needed. The plant’s dedication to environmental practices is seen in its significant reliance on renewable energy sources.

The plant is also totally water-positive and runs as a zero-waste operation. It replenishes the mining pit with more water—mostly rainwater—than the plant uses. The plant’s dedication to responsible resource management is further demonstrated by the installation of Air-Cooled Screw Compressors and air dryers rather than Water-Cooled variants, which further reduce process water usage.

Neeraj added, “Driven by our core philosophy of ‘Build Smart’, Shree Cement is firmly on track to become a modern and green building material company. To maintain our industry-leading performance benchmarks, we are ramping up our capacity utilisation, enhancing our brand equity, raising cost efficiency and further stepping up our R&D efforts. This strategic approach ensures we continue to set new standards of excellence in the industry.”

Cement is manufactured at Shree Cement’s sites in the UAE and India. The completion of the Guntur unit’s commissioning represents a critical turning point in the company’s progress towards reaching its production goal of 80 MTPA capacity by 2028 when 13 further plants—five of which are slated to be commissioned in FY25—will be online.

Shree Cement Limited is renowned for its finest operational efficiency, cost leadership, cutting-edge creative techniques, and green credentials that dominate the industry.
