Solar energy plant to power Central Jail
Renewable Energy: Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency plans to develop the Central Jail solar power plant spread across 84 acre in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. It has 18 barracks in which more than 2,000 prisoners are lodged. It also has a hospital, a big kitchen and factories to manufacture mats, soaps, phenyl, furniture, etc by jail inmates at present; the Central Jail gets 313 KW. According to jail officials, the future plan is to develop a system for all these to function on solar power. The move is aimed at reducing electricity bills and utilizing the money saved to make improvements in prison.
