Tekla to reinforce India business [June 2012]

Tekla India, 3D BIM software provider, is rapidly increasing its footprints in India. With a global turnover of around 60 million euros annually, Tekla Structures has become the preferred software for structural engineers, detailers, and contractors. India plays a significant role for Tekla as far as its global market is concerned. “With its burgeoning infrastructure segment, India is one of our most important markets. Our goal is to inform growing markets like India about BIM and its role in the building process”, said Andre Corniere, Director of B&C Steel Segment at Tekla Corporation during his recent visit to India on the occasion of Tekla India User Meet (TIUM) 2012. “Tekla India is growing by almost 50 per cent”, he reveals.
The company has also made significant investment in R&D and plans to expand the team. Tekla India is also chalking out plans to strengthen its presence in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
User Meet gets huge responseTekla India had organised 5th annual customer meet in Mumbai on April 12-14. Ushering the new developments and technologies in the rapidly expanding infrastructure industry, the meet drew an overwhelming response with more than 170 participants from over 75 companies across India. The two day event held was aimed at making users aware of the latest developments and features of the newly launched BIM software Tekla Structures 18. The event had guest speakers from renowned companies like Prothious Engineering Services, L&T MHI Boilers, and NPCC Engineering sharing their experiences of using BIM.
Speaking on the occasion Nirmalya Chatterjee – COO, Tekla India said, “User meet is a right platform to highlight and update users about the advancements and technological improvements in Tekla Structures and how it is going to change users’ ability to expand its business and meet the emerging challenges faced in the infrastructure industry. This is our 5th Annual TIUM with our users and we are delighted with the trust showed by our users by being available for this event”.
“It was the 5th year the Indian team has organised this user meet and this year it was highest number of participants, which shows the interest from users’ level to take benefit out of such initiative from our end”, Mr. Andre comments.
The Users SpeakMcNally Bharat Engineering, one of the leading engineering companies in India, is associated with Tekla since 2005. The company is engaged in providing turnkey solutions in the areas of power, steel, aluminium, material handling, mineral beneficiation, pyroprocessing, pneumatic handling of powdered materials, civic and industrial water supply etc. Achyut Majumdar, Head of Civil & Struct. Engg., SBU – Engineering, McNally Bharat Engineering informed, “Initially we had only 2 licenses, however today we have about 27 licenses of Tekla. The association with Tekla has been good as whenever we needed some support it was provided”.
Suresh Iyer, Vice President, DGS Technical Services comments, “The feedbacks given by customers have made Tekla possible to release better capabilities and enhancements. The day is not far when they will be dominating their market segment”. DGS Technical Services provides high quality structural steel detailing and miscellaneous steel drafting services for steel fabricators. The company has been associated with Tekla since 2004.
New LaunchIn an aim to achieve easy modelling and improved intuitiveness in drawing editing Tekla has recently launched the latest version of BIM technology namely Tekla Structures 18. According to Mr. Andre, “Collaboration between construction project stakeholders is one of the important aspects and Tekla Structures 18 improves the collaboration. All project stakeholders from architects, fabricators, contractors, designers and engineers to on-site builders benefit from improved access to more constructable, accurate and complete 3D model data”. The new version makes the workflow more efficient and intuitive than earlier, which reduces overall lead times in modelling.
Best Architects and Engineers Showcased Inspiring ProjectsOne of the main highlights of the event was the Tekla India Model Competition (TIMC) which is arranged yearly and functions as a platform for Tekla customers to showcase their success stories worldwide.
The model competition winners were chosen amongst total of 28 entries across 4 categories: Best BIM project, Best industrial steel structure, Best reinforced concrete/precast project and Special project.
DGS Technical Services was awarded under Best BIM project category, L&T IES division gets the Best Industrial Steel Structure category award whereas TRF had been adjudged winner under Special Project category.

The winners were chosen in each category by a mix of online voting, voting at the venue and an independent jury panel. The model competition is arranged in 9 countries and winners of each country will enter into the Tekla Global BIM Awards competition, which will be arranged in the end of 2012.
