Volvo CE launches grid-connected EW240 electric material handler

The EW240 Electric Material Handler is the ideal, hard-working, sustainable solution for waste and recycling, an industry where circularity is in close focus. By providing near-silent and zero-emission electric solutions, we are supporting our customers’ need to work more sustainably and deliver on their transformation journey, as well as lower the cost of their operations. – Thomas Nather, SAS Commercial Project Manager, Volvo CE.

The newest model in Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) impressive line of zero-emission vehicles that help the company move towards carbon neutrality is the grid-connected EW240 Electric Material Handler.

When connected to a continuous cable, the nearly silent EW240 Electric Material Handler may operate continuously without the need to pause for refuelling or charging, which makes it an ideal indoor material handler for garbage and recycling applications. In addition to producing zero exhaust fumes and a noticeable reduction in heat, vibration, and noise, it also opens up new business options and improves workplace comfort. In January 2024, a limited number of customers in Europe will have access to the wheeled excavator with grid connectivity.

The EW240 Electric Material Handler not only provides several new business prospects but is also an environmentally preferable option. It is the ideal choice for low-carbon zones, noise-sensitive locations, both indoors and outdoors, and for operating during unsociable hours due to its nearly silent operation and minimal exhaust emissions. Because of its quieter functioning, there is less disturbance to the adjacent residents, the operator, and those working on the site.

Sustainability in Action
Electric solutions, such as the EW240 Electric Material Handler, are ideal for use in garbage and recycling applications. They complement the company’s environmental goals and operations by facilitating a more sustainable way of working.

The EW240 Electric Material Handler’s electrification allows it to operate longer between maintenance needs, which results in lower maintenance expenses as compared to a diesel substitute. Reduced downtime and expenses are also a result of the absence of engine-related consumables, including water separators, filters, and engine oil.

No time for downtime
The EW240 Electric Material Handler is the ideal option for boosting output and cutting expenses in stationary applications because it has a cable connection. With the extra benefit of not needing to pause work to refuel or recharge, this electric-powered material handler offers operators the same performance and control as traditional machines.

As an alternative, operators are free to work for as long as they like. Given their exceptional levels of comfort, this may take a long time. The heated and suspended seat, together with the flat machine hood, side and rearview camera, and LED lights, all contribute to an even better operator experience.

Grid-Connected Solutions
Grid-connected systems, such as the EW240 Electric Material Handler, are perfect for use in stationary applications where repetitive operations, like material handling, are necessary, particularly in the trash and recycling sector. Volvo CE is still investing in technology solutions designed to meet the demands of the industry.
