To highlight the importance of skills development in the construction industry and the vital role played by equipment operators, construction equipment manufacturing major Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) runs a hugely popular Operator Champion contest in countries across the globe, and has just wrapped up its inaugural edition of the event in India.
Around 500 CE operators took part in the event that took off 18 months ago, with a select few qualifying for the final round in Bengaluru recently. Bheemappa K.S from Karnataka scooped first prize and Narendra Singh from Rajasthan bagged the runners up award.
Presenting the awards to the champions, Dimitrov Krishnan, Vice President and Head of Volvo CE India said, “Through this Operator Champion program, we have connected with so many operators and their networks around the country. Our aim has been to make each one of them realise the important role they play, improve their competence and confidence. And to the winners, we hope the prize money will change their life to an extent.”
He adds, “The men and women that sit at the controls of our equipment have the power to deliver real change in our built environment and this is something we should be celebrating as a nation.”
Gaurav Kapoor, Head – Industry Partnership and CSR at National Skill Development Corporation was also present at the event.
