Vedanta Aluminium collabs with tech start-ups
The largest aluminium producer in India, Vedanta Aluminium, is commemorating National Start-up Day by highlighting the 90 unique projects it has collaborated on with over 60 start-ups using cutting-edge technology.
Vedanta Aluminium is utilising Industry 4.0 technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), Drone technology, Computer Vision, Robotics, and more, to drive operational excellence and innovation across its functions, going beyond traditional ideas of manufacturing.
The company hosted a comprehensive knowledge-sharing session in honour of National Startup Day, inviting several top start-ups to present the fruitful results of their partnership and illustrate the influence of cutting-edge technologies on Vedanta Aluminium’s vital operations. These cover a range of situations, including those involving the company’s supply chain, material handling, smelters, alumina refineries, power plants, mines, and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) procedures.
This project, which was in line with the principles of “Startup India” and “Made in India,” was a crucial component of the company’s Vedanta Spark initiative, a novel corporate innovation, accelerator, and venture programme that enables start-ups to solve large-scale business problems at scale by utilising transformative technologies. Vedanta Aluminium has established partnerships with deep tech start-ups under the Vedanta Spark project to work on projects such as IOT solutions for continuous monitoring of critical production parameters, advanced modelling for finished goods quality control, start-up optimisation of power plants, AR/VR/XR simulations for employee safety training, drone-based surveillance, and many more.
Speaking on the occasion, John Slaven, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, says, “The rise of India’s economy to global prominence is fuelled by its youthful dynamism and unwavering entrepreneurial zeal. The nation is home to one of the world’s most thriving start-up and entrepreneurial ecosystems. As India’s largest producer of aluminium, Vedanta Aluminium complements the relentless drive radiating from these start-ups, leading to collaborative efforts for global excellence. With aluminium emerging as the cornerstone for a sustainable future, our path to exponential growth relies on being digital-first and future-ready. Therefore, we actively collaborate with tech start-ups, infusing cutting-edge technologies and global expertise to elevate our manufacturing and operational excellence.”
Commenting on the collaboration, Raju Yadati – Founder & Director, Glovision Techno Services Pvt Ltd. says, “At Glovision, we build cutting-edge cloud-based IOT applications for Vedanta Aluminium to optimise logistics and transportation, thereby contributing to safer and more productive mining operations. It has been our privilege to work with the company.”
Adding his views, Himanshu Srivastava, Director, Customer Success, ZestIOT, “We have deployed our proprietary deep-tech AI/ML algorithms, which are used at the company’s Jharsuguda smelter operations, to enhance accuracy and transparency in critical operations. We thank Vedanta Aluminium for their mentorship, which has been invaluable.”
Vedanta Aluminium has set up ‘Innovation Cafés’ throughout its business units to foster an innovative culture and turn workers into entrepreneurs. These lively areas act as launch pads for side projects, where staff members and business associates work together to address a range of company difficulties, combining internal knowledge and generating creative solutions. In the midst of this, the company actively supports a large ecosystem of rural and microentrepreneurs in the hinterlands of the country where its operations are located. In addition to fostering many MSMEs, Vedanta Aluminium’s extensive value chain, customer base, and supplier network have elevated many to the status of valued suppliers and appreciated business partners for the company, assisting them in joining the global value chain.
