Ammann Group procures ABG Pavers from Volvo CE

The Ammann Group has successfully acquired the ABG paving product line from Volvo Construction Equipment.

“ABG is a strong brand that we’re proud to welcome to Ammann,” says Hans-Christian Schneider, CEO of Ammann. “We will continue to build on ABG’s exceptional product line and reputation and provide complete roadbuilding solutions for the industry.”

Volvo CE’s paving businesses in Linyi, China, and Bangalore, India, together with its ABG factory in Hameln, Germany, were transferred as part of the agreement.

At the Hameln location, ABG pavers and screeds will still be produced. The production facilities owned by Amman Group in Suzhou, China, and Mehsana, India, will soon start functioning.

Ammann will maintain ownership of the ABG brand as part of the deal. “The ABG brand is synonymous with quality in the industry and aligns perfectly with Ammann’s history in asphalt compaction,” says Bernd Holz, Executive Vice President at Ammann.

Founded in 1945 as a construction equipment repair company, ABG has expanded to become one of the most known paving brands in the world. ABG recently showcased its dedication to ongoing innovation at INTERMAT 2024 in Paris by introducing a new electric paver.

“This synergy elevates our capability to provide comprehensive, cutting-edge road construction equipment solutions across India and the globe. It strategically positions us to cater to India’s burgeoning infrastructure needs that are critical towards building a strong base for sustainable economic growth. With ABG’s strong product portfolio, we shall intensify our delivery of high-performance paving products that align perfectly with our history of excellence in asphalt paving and compaction.”, says Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director of Ammann India Pvt. Ltd.

Ammann will support paver development with its industry expertise and relationships with clients; the Group’s Centre of Excellence for paving operations will be ABG in Hameln, Germany.

The variety of paving products that are accessible is remarkable; they range from a basic 1.5-meter screed width to 13-meter paving widths that are utilised on construction projects such as roads and airports. There are two types of screeds: fixed and variable. They can be used with asphalt, graded mineral mixes, roller-compacted concrete and railway ballast.

“In addition to our smallest and largest pavers, we have several other models to meet the unique needs of every customer,” Holz mentioned.

The Ammann ABG paver product line is renowned for its high-end technology, durability, simplicity of use, and robust construction. Their goals are to limit emissions, conserve fuel, and operate quietly. There are options for tracked and wheeled pavers.

The ABG screeds are also a crucial difference and have been for nearly 80 years. “The screeds have consistently raised the bar in the asphalt industry, a tradition that continues to this day,” Holz added.

ABG brought the world’s first hydraulically adjustable high-compaction screed. The e+ screed heat system is one of the latest innovations; it can reduce CO2 emissions and save up to thirty minutes of warm-up time every shift.

Modern screeds come equipped with a single or double tamper, hydraulically driven end gates as an option, an enhanced quick-coupling system for easy extension, and several profile options. Up to 98 percent Marshall density and a 5–7 percent increase in degree of compaction are obtained with the double tamper approach.

Variomatic screeds are equipped with multiple compaction processes and can pave up to 10 metres in width. They work well for many other types of projects, such as bespoke profiles, hot mixes, and cold mixes. It is simple to expand the electrically heated Variomatic screeds to a width greater than twice the basic width.
