Evolve Interiors and Exteriors Solutions is a new-age surface décor finishes company that amalgamates technology with design to manufacture novel surface finishes, applicable across interiors, exteriors, furniture, and artifacts. Founded by father-daughter duo Himanshu Shah and Krishika Shah in 2014, Evolve is an embodiment of their penchant for innovation. The company became one of the pioneers of Liquid Metal Finishes (a revolutionary process that will change the way the design industry will be fused with metal, in India). Evolve’s vision remains to introduce path-breaking, innovative, and green technologies to the Indian market and beyond.

Himanshu Shah is a first-generation entrepreneur, with over 3 decades of experience in the manufacturing sector with expertise in the surface coatings industry and the other co-founder, Krishika Shah holds a master’s degree in business from Imperial College Business School, London, and looks after the international expansion of the company. Krishika had a project in the last year of college, which was to make a business plan; her business plan revolved around introducing functional interior lifestyle products that were innovative. Although their financials did not make sense during the project, the idea stuck with her. She and her father founded ‘Evolve’ to bring in conceptual products that would help make life easier, subsequently more ‘evolved’. She started with introducing a few products like ‘remote operate drying racks’ and ‘battery-free wireless switches’ that work on kinetic energy. Very soon she realized the need to expand her portfolio to something that they manufactured, as import duties are generally very high. As a consequence of which, they pivoted to introduce unique wall finishes for the design industry.

Having acquired the know-how for this international technology from an Australian counterpart, the company now indigenously manufactures these finishes in its factory in Mumbai, India. In the year of 2017, they forayed into Decorative Concrete Finishes to cater to the dynamic needs of architects and interior designers, and become the go-to company for unique surface textures, offering over 4500 design options. The company boasts of having the largest collection of Rust finishes in India, and can custom match any metal or concrete design inspiration.

Krishika adds, “At Evolve, we want to be the one-stop destination for unique sustainable products that are customisable to their clients’ needs. We believe that the design universe is yet not completely explored, and with new technologies coming in, there is a scope of producing products that are not just decorative but also functional. Our short term plans are to secure our supply chain, so people can source locally across all geographies. Followed by the introduction of materials that support designers to bring their visions to life in a cost-effective manner. Furthermore, the need of the hour is to reduce carbon footprint; so our initiatives are shaped keeping in mind the impact it would create. One of the simplest practices that are now in place are video cameras for clients to check the samples from the comfort of their workspace, using ‘Zoom’ for presentation meetings, also using eco-friendly packaging while couriering our samples, and reducing wastage by using recyclable materials”.

The company’s extensive clientele includes Sanjay Puri Architects, KNS Architects, ABM Architects, Rupande Shah, The Grid, Summesh Menon Associates, Red Architects, SEZA, RC Corp etc. They have worked with brands like Taj, Hilton, Le Meridien & Evolve, and have executed over 150 projects across the residential, commercial and hospitality sectors. From the time they pivoted, they knew that they wanted to cater to a global audience, since design is so subjective. They commenced their first project in 2016 in Dubai with KNS Architects and since then have completed projects in UAE, Bahrain, Malaysia, Maldives, and Singapore. They have worked with the likes of Capitaland, Keane Brands, Oakwood Group, Pavillion Design amongst many others.

The company is currently working on a VR experience for their showroom that will let any customer globally walk through their showroom, and then request to get on a Zoom call with a sales member. They are soon introducing a digital school, called ‘School of Textures’- Applicators, contractors and designers can enhance their texturing skills and knowledge of materials in general.
