Reduce dependence on fossil fuels using energy-efficient tech: Danfoss
Over the years, stakeholders across the board have seen the adverse effects of climate change and now realise the importance of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India
The global construction industry is projected to grow from $8.5 trillion in 2015 to $10.3 trillion in 2020. India is expected to account for over 56 per cent of the industry’s market share by 2020, says Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India,
Further he adds, “Translating the government’s vision for economic progress and infrastructure development through initiatives such as 100 Smart Cities Mission, Housing for All, Atal Mission for Urban Rejuvenation and Transportation (AMRUT) and Make in India, the Indian construction industry has witnessed tremendous growth over the last year. The emergence of new airports and approvals for railway connectivity projects and highways across States indicate that our country is moving towards progressive development.”
In other words, given the emerging trend of industrialisation and urbanisation, supported by an increase in population and disposable incomes, the demand for construction industry is set to grow manifold in the coming years. Furthermore, two-third of India is yet to be built – this presents an opportunity for India to uncover its potential to emerge as a global leader for sustainable infrastructure projects in the country.
Role of technology in making sustainable structures
Homes and buildings around the world consume the most amounts of energy, and for this very reason, it is vital to keep in mind that sustainable construction of these structures is deployed. Ravichandran opines, “Over the years, stakeholders across the board have seen the adverse effects of climate change and now realise the importance of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. This dependence is overcome by employing energy-efficient technologies and solutions that help increase productivity and efficiency of these products.”
Danfoss’s technologies for the future
The wide range of Danfoss products and solutions play a key role in saving fuel costs, reducing emissions and improving man-machine safety across the various sectors of the construction industry. Backed by vast experience in the utilisation of hydraulics, Danfoss’s portfolio encompasses applications for the entire construction industry and is widely used by global OEMs for their construction machinery.
Some of the products that are specially designed for the construction industry includes hydrostatics closed circuit piston pumps and motors, open circuit piston pumps, orbital motors, steering units and systems, PVG proportional valves and electronic components, in addition to newly launched products like electronic torque limit control pumps and telematics solutions. High-power Danfoss VLT drives dedicated for crane and material handling application is another key component in the construction industry.
The company’s products such as the Danfoss pressure sensors and solutions are extensively used in excavators, cranes, concrete machinery, piling machinery etc, among other areas, while others such as the Danfoss temperature sensors are highly recognised in the industry for its outstanding performance. “More new products are being planned by Danfoss to provide innovative, reliable, smart and energy efficient solutions to the customers,” informs Ravichandran.
