Schwing Stetter honoured with women empowerment award

V. G. Sakthikumar is credited with championing gender diversity and inclusion at Schwing Stetter India and advocating for the need at industry forums.

At the CII Excon 2023, V. G. Sakthikumar, Managing Director and Chairman of Schwing Stetter India, one of the nation’s top producers of construction equipment and concrete, was given the esteemed “Committed Leader for Women Empowerment award.”

Speaking on the occasion, V. G. Sakthikumar, Managing Director and Chairman, says, “We recognise the potential of women in breaking barriers and delivering high-quality results. What we started at a small scale in our newest plant, GmH, in the backward districts of Tamil Nadu has made us realise the possibility of increasing their percentage share. Today, 28 percent of our workforce on the shop floor is made up of women. We’ve taken special care to create an ecosystem fostering inclusion by building hostels and creches and establishing a women’s empowerment committee. We’ve also tied up with universities to upgrade their skills from Diploma Engineer trainees to Graduate Engineer trainees as they work and learn simultaneously.”

Schwing Stetter India has been spearheading several efforts to give women in the workforce better opportunities. These include the creation of a women’s empowerment committee, which is in charge of creating and carrying out employee support initiatives, and programmes that offer financial aid and scholarships to women who want to work in STEM fields. Furthermore, Schwing regularly collaborates with nonprofit groups that support the empowerment of women.
