Escorts CE, a technology-driven company, continues to invest a considerable amount of money into R&D. In an interview with ACE Update, Rajinder Raina talks about this development and his company’s business strategies.
What are your views on Indian construction technology vis-à-vis that prevailing in Asia and the West? The technology in the construction equipment in India has come a long way in the past decade or so but not only has it a long way to go but also to keep pace with the technologies in other parts of the world. It has to be a growth in perpetuity. For being there the R&D needs to be invested into.
Please talk about recent technological development in construction technology as far as Escorts CE is concerned. We have been focusing on long distance stroke, remote monitoring and control systems to get best out of the equipment performance and avoid abuse and pilferage.
We have also worked on ensuring making our machines more rugged and reliable to maximise uptime as we believe that people will pay premium for the reliable machines because there will be premium on timely completion of projects.
Are you going to introduce any new product? We have a few projects on the join board which would be introduced in various quarters during the year 2015. On some of the products the field trials are currently on.  What are your efforts toward strengthening position in overseas markets?Export is going to be one of our major focus areas. Keeping without philosophy of having provision for after-sales support even before the machine arrives at the market place, we are currently strengthening our network base in select markets in a strategic manner. We have chosen not to spread thin but take sure and firm footed strides. In last six months, in particular, we have exported some good numbers of machines which we hope to build up on. PM Modi has launched ‘Make in India’ mission. What are your initiatives in this regards? This initiative by the honourable Prime Minister will help manufacturing sector. We attended the recently held bauma China in Shanghai to explore the possibility of entering into some new partnerships. We have got some good responses and hope to look beyond the range currently manufactured by Escorts. Where do you see India in general and your company in particular by 2020?In the next five years the industry should see a growth going 15 per cent on CAGR basis. We at Escorts are sure of achieving a CAGR of more than 20 per cent given the fact that we have crossed 25 per cent also in the past.
