Indian Railways plans to construct railway line in Karnataka

Railways: Indian Railways has plan to construct 168.289 KM broad gauge railway line from Hubli to Ankola in Uttara Kannada District. The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) had disapproved this project in 2015 citing irreparable damage likely to be caused to the ecology. The National Green Tribunal gave its nod to Railways in February, 2016 and had recommended to take this further with the state government and can apply for converting forest land into non-forest land at Hubballi in Karnataka.
