“JCB has been one of the pioneers in the industry and investing in innovation,” says Amit Gossain, EVP – Sales, Marketing and Business Development; JCB
When it comes to construction equipment, JCB is one of the preferred names for its reliability and range of offerings. In an interview with ACE Update, Amit Gossain discusses how JCB has been become a trusted brand in the construction equipment segment.
India and construction equipment industry Owing to the recent focused and bold reforms by the government, Indian infrastructure industry is gaining momentum and witnessing a slight upsurge in the demand for construction equipment. Though the industry still has a long way to go, JCB is definitely on the growth trajectory.
According to a latest report by E&Y titled “Engineering, Procurement and Construction”, the 12th Plan envisions investment of approximately Rs 56.3 trillion in Indian infrastructure while the construction opportunity is estimated to be around Rs 26.7 trillion, presenting a huge opportunity for the construction equipment sector.
JCB has been one of the pioneers in the industry and investing in innovation. In the past few years, it has launched machines which are known for their performance, productivity, cutting-edge technology and versatility. Its machines have set benchmarks when it comes to technologically advanced features and will continue to do so.
Investing for better manufacturing JCB has set up five world-class facilities in India. These are in Ballabgarh, Pune and Jaipur. Jaipur is the latest addition in its manufacturing footprint. Built on 1-million-sq.-ft. area, this is its largest facility in India. As always, JCB has taken the long-term view on the growth, hence continued to invest. It invested during the 2007-08 downturn and then during 2013-14 in Jaipur. The basic idea is to keep pace with future economic growth and further strengthen JCB’s position as a market leader in the construction equipment industry.
One global quality JCB currently offers the widest range of construction equipment with 25 variants in seven product lines. All JCB products are manufactured on the company philosophy of “one global quality” which means that products manufactured in India can be operated in any part of the world.
JCB India has become an export hub for Africa, Middle East, South East Asia and the Indian sub-continent. It exports finished machines to these countries and also export component parts, engines and transmissions to its sister units in UK, Brazil and Germany.
Revolutionising material handling processJCB recently introduced 12 next generation products including two new best-in-class product lines in the material handling segment: telehandlers known as Loadalls (Loadall 7 metres and Loadall 11 metres) and skid steers loaders known as Robots (SSL 135 and SSL 155). Both these products will revolutionise the material handling process in India.
JCB also introduced “JCB Livelink”, an advanced telematics system which provides information on service, operation and security of machines.
Training manpowerThe gap in demand and supply for skilled manpower is one of the major problems in the industry. In order to combat with this problem, JCB in association with ITIs, state governments and dealers operates 14 operational training centres across India. The company has trained over 22,000 young men as operators till date.
