Volvo CE launches new excavator for Indian mining sector

Contractors, who need to go for larger volumes and maintain costs, will definitely look at EC750D seriously.

Volvo Construction Equipment has launched 75-tonne class excavator into the Indian market at an event held in company’s customer centre, Bengaluru.
The new EC750D excavator is expected to redefine mining operations in India and bring unprecedented levels of productivity to the job site, states Dimitrov Krishnan, Vice President of Volvo CE India. “With the 75-tonne class excavator, miners will be able to load their trucks quicker thereby enhancing production and optimising fleet utilisation,” he adds.
With the Indian government targeting annual coal production of 1 billion tonnes by 2020, pressure is building on mining operators to improve both their productivity and output. According to Dimitrov EC750D can be a perfect solution to meet this demand. “The EC750D is the largest excavator ever produced by Volvo CE and it will sit above our flagship model, the EC480D. The EC480D is currently the most popular machine in its class and we expect the EC750D to enjoy similar success and establish itself as the premier heavy-duty excavator in this country,” says Dimitrov while handing over the keys of newly launched excavators to B Rohit Reddy, Director of BGR. The first six EC750D machines in India have been delivered to BGR Mining and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, one of the largest private mining contractors in India. Nurturing relationshipsHyderabad-based BGR Mining & Infra is one of the major customers of Volvo CE. The partnership has enjoyed decades of patronage. Commenting on this aspect, Rohit Reddy says, “Relationship has played an important role in creating successful business endeavours for Volvo and BGR Mining. It’s a win-win situation for both the companies.”
Six EC750D excavators are expected to join the existing huge fleet of BGR Mining soon. The giant machines are expected to be deployed at the Neyveli site in Tamil Nadu for coal mining activities, informs Rohit Reddy. He adds, “We have plans for deploying these excavators even in Jharkhand.”
The driving force behind the new heavy-duty excavator is the powerful Volvo D16 Tier 3 engine, which has been significantly updated. It delivers increased horsepower and fuel efficiency and also has a robust design to ensure a low total cost of ownership. In India Volvo CE is backing the engine with 10,000-hour warranty as standard.
Designed to performThe EC750D’s constant high system pressure delivers greater digging force and reduces cycle times. The high system pressure also delivers an impressive tractive force, particularly useful when the excavator is climbing gradients or travelling over uneven ground. A wider track gauge and heavier counterweight improve stability.
Built with durable Volvo components, the EC750D has been designed to last. Robust parts and easy service access increase uptime and keep maintenance to a minimum. Volvo’s tried and tested components have been proven in even the toughest applications.
The reinforced heavy-duty boom and arm are built from high strength tensile steel while steel strips are welded under the arm to further increase protection. The reinforced upper and lower frames are built to withstand tough conditions and the strengthened idler frame, track links and bottom rollers are designed for constant impact. Heavy-duty plates provide additional protection to the underside of the machine.
Work in harmonyFor increased productivity and profitability, the EC750D can work with a range of Volvo buckets and attachments. These include Volvo’s heavy-duty bucket, which is particularly well-suited to mining and quarrying, and which is built using wear resistant plates.
A comfortable, low noise cab with adjustable seat increases operator efficiency to further improve production. The cab boasts superior visibility from large expanses of front and side glass with slim cab pillars and the spacious environment provides ample storage and leg room.
A matured market Mining contractors in India are the most sophisticated buyers in the world. Their understanding of cost per tonne is second to none, claims Dimitrov.
